Barbara Thompson Piano Studio
Barbara Thompson has been teaching private piano lessons for over 30 years. Her studio is located in Apple Valley, Minnesota. Mrs. Thompson has been a member of the Minnesota Music Teachers Association (MMTA) since 1976. She also is member of the South Suburban Music Teachers Association (SSMTA) where she is the treasurer. Mrs. Thompson earned a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with Music Emphasis from the University of Wisconsin at Madison, Wisconsin. She has studied piano with Martha Baker at MacPhail School of Music.
Along with teaching, Mrs. Thompson has been an accompanist for various church choirs and for instrumentalists in high school festivals. She has served as the Renewal Chairman for MMTA from 1991 to 1995, and has chaired the National Federation of Music Clubs (NFMC) festival that SSMTA holds annually. She has been a state auditor for the Minnesota Federation of Music Clubs festivals and served as the state festival cup chairperson for two years. She frequently adjudicates MMTA theory exams.
Mrs. Thompson provides opportunities for her students to share music with others through fall and spring recitals. Other options for students to perform are the SSMTA joint recitals, NFMC Festival, MMTA Ensemble Festival Piano Syllabus Exams, Theory Exams and Music Bridges.
